Founded in 2016, Certn uses AI and machine learning to streamline the candidate screening process. Its expedited, frictionless background check experience allows employers to make fact based hiring decisions faster and better, reducing costs and giving them an edge in highly competitive labor markets. The team has built a proprietary screening platform that connects to all major global people data sources, which enables background checks to be completed in minutes instead of days or weeks. The company has also redesigned the candidate’s or tenant’s user experience, allowing them to use a mobile device or desktop to easily fill out their details and upload ID and a live photo.

Andrew McLeod is Certn’s Co-Founder and CEO. He previously co-founded Emei Supply Company, a producer of adventure sports equipment, and was Chief Strategic Officer of Rentmoola, a fintech company focused on real estate rental space. Andrew has led Certn to win multiple regional and national awards, including being recognized as British Columbia’s fastest growing company in 2023 and regular placements on lists including Deloitte’s Fast50, LinkedIn Top Startups, KPMG Canadian Tech Innovator and Team True North Canada’s Top-Performing Tech Companies.

Owen Madrick is Certn’s Co-founder and COO. He is a Chartered Accountant with a CPA designation from the United States who previously served as VP of Finance at RentMoola and Director of Finance at DFH Real Estate, one of the largest real estate brokerages on Vancouver Island. 

Andrew and Owen are long-time friends who share a vision of building the next Shopify in Canada. Beyond their desire to build a global, industry-disrupting leader in the candidate screening space, the pair are passionate about building the tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Western Canada. Andrew and Owen were selected as Endeavor Entrepreneurs through the Canada office in 2023.
